The Tausug culture seems quite sucky with respect to male occupational choices.

The Tausug male would reply that the only alternatives would be agriculture and fishing, both of which are suitable only for women and slaves, between whom he would make little distinction. I don't think you'd approve of Tausug culture in general. It's pretty feudal.

Francia is a left ideologue, though less extreme than many, and like all ideologues he resorts to the distortion of fact in support of his own view. While he does have some valid points, I think his "Retaking a Choice Outpost" hypothesis is not supported by evidence. I suspect that the deployment is more an effort to gain domestic points in a small scale low risk operation than part of some neocolonial conspiracy. I'll bet the VV readers swallowed it hook, line, and sinker, though.
