Thomas,

We've got a new participant at the Fool piping in about the app server market. He wrote:

"On the last issue, the developers TODAY which optimize for BEA usalley develop custom applications in which thier code is used only by the current product or by a product line. What I reffering to, is a market that does not exist yet (althogh the vision is ) - a market for component software. In this kind of market you develop application by purchasing pre build software components and write only the software glue. However, this market failed to materilize due to the large context involved in software (i.e. your HR system is diffrent from my HR system). EJB goal is to solve this context problem. However, it is likley the EJB will also fail if it will not use other technologies (like Rule based system which capture business rule externally). So, if we assume that somehow this market will emerge and assuming that there will be other players, the supplier for this market (refer to as software factories) will try to produce solution for the common dominator i.e. J2EE instead for one of the player , and this could make the market a royalty one. "

Is he using different words to say essentially the same thing you're saying about component software becoming more important in the future and thus leading to a royalty game?
