The Byte article didn't mention the Alpha system cost.

I imagine it's pretty expensive, since the CPU costs more than a PPro and their system has 128M RAM.

Check out a graphics magazine like Computer Graphics World. There are a lot of HW/SW bundles advertised and the CPU choices are always PPro and Alpha. The standard RAM is 64M, not Byte's 128M. I don't know the relative percentages of each system sold. It might be interesting to call a vendor and ask. They might also know whether the translator is attracting more interest in Alpha.
