Giving up 1997 gain is no G :-(. I also lost some in the beginning of
this downturn, but regained later shorting. I'm watching emerging
markets right now - Malaysia (EWM), Korea, Japan (to a less extent),
Russia and Eastern Europe (RNE and TRF). The buck is so strong
nowadays, a reversal seems imminent. Russia is undervalued.
A 75-80% decline in Thailand, Malaysia and Korea (in dollar terms).
is just insane - and they are still dropping. Often currencies
bounce back after such dramatic declines. Stock markets are tougher
to predict- but they also will, IMO. Just watching as they Bottom
out. NSCP dynamics depends on the market; in this jittery market
now I don't think it can have considerable bounce before the
Windows-98. I'm watching it as a potential leader in the internet
software market, though. As its valuation is brought into a
reasonable range, I think, it will become a reasonable long-term
play. I'd like them to somehow resolve this situation with Microsoft
though. This will become more clear after windows-98. The future
of the internet is in cable modems. So AOL will probably die.
It would be nice to have NSCP design some basic browsing software
for some cheap internet boxes, etc. But their survival is not
yet obvious. If they do, I think, they will prosper. -Vi
