The audio speaker industry is and has been very active in generating pressure from electrostatic potential. "Electric wind" as we know it is generated by charged particles from a pointed electrode at high voltage or between the plates of a charged capacitor. And therein lies the problem to be solved; where there is lots of charged particles, there exists the potential for a discharge, and modern microelectronics are not characteristically designed to operate in the environment of a high voltage discharge. Piezo electrics is another approach to creating a non-motorized air pump; but here too, Piezo electrics are generally relatively high voltage devices. Today, Aavid looks to such research to potentially replace motorized impellers and fans which we use today for airmovers, but which are expensive and generally less reliable than the devices they are engineered to protect. Thus a practical implimentation of "electric wind" would create a wonderful opportunity for Aavid.
