A Dummy Looks Looks Ahead

Most of the contributors to this thread appear to be far more experienced in this area than yours truly, so I look forward to listening and learning. Thanks for providing a valuable addition to SI. This forum is a wonderful idea.

Thanks for jumping in dgg [Dummy Gorilla Girl :0) ]. I am overwhelmed this morning by the number of posts and PM's -- what the heck have I gotten into here. <lol>

Seriously folks, you all have to help each other. I am by no means an option expert. I'm just a dummy too (dfl). I hope y'all break up into two or three discussion groups: the Real Beginners, the I've Written A Few's, and the Honest To Gosh Smart Dummies.

The RB's inform us of fundamental thread needs and directions. The WAF's furnish feedback on the trials and tribulations of getting up and running in a "beta test" environment. The HTGSD's must supply mentoring and process improvement advice.

Everyday tactical questions need to be handled by your fellow participants but the strategic knowledge, especially that relating to what a beginner should know, needs to be accumulated and written into a faq one of these days.

I have found McMillian to be clear, straightforward, and very complete (i use a 15 year old version).

I hope that every beginner here will will spend some time at least read the chapters on how options work, how to think about option values, writing covered calls, and buying calls. All the straddles, spreads, and other schemes are not relevant to this thread IMO.
