Vitesse and GaAs are ahead. Notice the article ends by implying that the cost for CMOS in the 1-2 Ghz band is too high. Further, the article states that GaAs is the only choice for higher bands.

From the article:
"..If they can be combined at an attractive cost, the mainstream momentum of CMOS will certainly make it the winner in the 1-to 2-GHz band..."

Notice the "IF". In this case, the "IF" means no sellable product exists. Sure, the competition is heating up--but more like in the "slow-cooker" of semiconductor engineers' heads.
