Hi tech,

Since you are suffering from some sort of withdrawal symptoms I thought I had better give you another fix!! The article was interesting but at the end of the day surely as the cost of people rises for all in the industry the prices to the customers will rise. Those companies making the most profits will probably win the bidding war not only with salary packages but with share options backed up by a rising share price.

If you think that the problem is serious in the U.S., spare a thought for Europe where we have to also contend with the problem of the Euro. A report today in the London FT quotes a report from Software Productivity Research Inc, Burlington, Mass. which suggests that the Y2K programming costs for Europe will be about $94bn and the programming costs for the integration of the Euro will be circa $85bn.

Interestingly enough before Geoff Finlay departed Alydaar he did suggest that the Euro would be an area that Alydaar could start to move into. I would tend to agree. I would say that the ignorance of many companies in Europe to the impending Y2K disaster is only outdone by their ignorance of the impending Euro disaster.

The Euro problem will also obviously affect all those U.S. corporations doing business with Europe as for instance all prices will have to be quoted in Euros as well as $ and œ/Dm etc.,etc.

Regards,

Del.
