Jeff, you may be absolutely correct. But if the modem does what my friend says, I want to get one. (Took him three months!) Think of the time it would save. W/out all the particulars I cannot talk intelligently about the modem. But it seems like something that has definitive market appeal, and like with the JAZ and ZIP, consumers will make IOMEGA, granted only a secondary product, more of a household word and reign supreme despite WS and the "old guard" so to speak.
Speaking of their R & D I took this from their 31 Mar 96 10-Q
"Research and development expenses were 3% of sales for the three month period ended 31 Mar 96, compared to 10% for the three month period ended 2 Apr 95. The decline in percentage is primarily due to the increased sale volumes in 96. The actual research and development expenses increased by $2.9 million for the first quarter of 96, compared to the corresponding period of 95...." (These figures related to the continued development of the Jaz, Zip and Ditto.)
Get this Jay, and others: "Management expects continued increases in research and development expenses, in absolute dollars, in the remainder of 1996 as the result of planned increases in the resources dedicated to FUTURE product development and enhancement."
What more needs to be said on being LONG on IOMEGA? It's vision that will keep IOMEGA ahead of its competitors, and that eventually will bring CPQ into the fold!
Up late because I don't have that modem, Jay, will keep you posted.
