Hi Frank,

Yes, E1 has more channels. But I only see it as
a tweaking of the number. And what's the A-law
thing? U-law was fine, but CCITT created A-law, just
for the purpose of being different. The same thing
that went on in wired telecomm is happenning in
3G wireless networks again. But we are not going
to let them steal our IP this time.

I don't have anything against Europeans. It is just
that when it comes to telecommunications, we have been
far better. Have you heard any story about the telecomm
system in Russia when it was still a communist country?
Russia designed its own telecomm system, which was not
compatable to that of Western Europe. This system
was so bad, that a long distance call required human
interaction at every switching point. The caller had to
tell the operator at every switching point the number
he's trying to reach. A long distance call can sometimes
go through 10 or more switching points. This
is unthinkable for those of us who is using the near
perfect telecomm system in the US. Similar stories
exist for Western Europe, but not nearly as bad.

Completely unrelated to the previous paragraph, datacomm
network is still a lot less reliable than the telephone
network. I think if anyone, Lucent probably has the best
shot at being first to bring datacomm to the reliability
of telecomm.

When is Lucent going to announce its acquisition? Maybe
after the earning announcement? If the earning can blow
out the estimation and rocket LU up, the power of interest
of pooling would surely be AMPLIFIED.
