God has not reveal unto men why he chose to save Jacob and to leave Esau go to hell ! He has however revealed that he did chose Jacob before he was even born or before he had done anything good or evil.

Romans 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

Your question as to WHY can not be answered. It is not reveal HOW God decided. Notice this verse.

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

How or why he chose to save me is hidden in God's secret will. It is most certain that I am not saved because of anything I did. I am not just a "better person" than the guy next door. I am not "smarter" or "wiser" or anything. There is NO GOOD thing in the flesh. I am saved by Grace Alone.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Do you know what "Predestinated" means???
