lisa --- computer problems.......allow me to address some of your problems with some "suggested" actions which may help.

plugged in my new monitor and it decided to "get jiggy with it" and the display moves of its own volition This can be caused by several things:
1) Low voltage --- which if the low voltage occurs infrequently; then a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS -- no NOT the shipping company) could solve the problem. Calling the power company could help also. The power circuit that feeds your house might have some capacitor banks on it and when they go "out" of the circuit, then you might have the low voltage problem. This is usually always the reason why a fluorescent light flickers sometimes but not all the time.

2) Sparious harmonics --- caused by CBers, pirate radio stations, sometimes Amateur Radio Operators, other electronic equipment, etc. ---- there are filters available that could filter out the noise.

3) Sunspots --- sorry. This one is hard to filter.

4) Static Electricity ---- buying the anti-static pledge will probably help; but so will cutting off ALL that thick hair that you have --- speaking of which, I guess I'll be getting shocked a LOT this week. I didn't get my hair cut.

you could have your electrician check the circuit.....or best of all, install a combination surge protector, noise filter on a NEW circuit from the electrical panel to a new plug just for your computer.
