The notion of a core with sufficient power to sustain itself has been embattled for a very long time.

The whole idea of stopping the teaching of "dead white males" rose with multiculturalism. At the K-12 level, it was, "we are hurting the self esteem of Jose and Maria when we teach only American History." The K-12 programs were "top downed" from the Teachers Colleges.

The core has been "embattled for a long time." And it is the rise of multiculturism that has played a big part in it's embattlement.

The latest study at Harvard shows just how bad the whole College programs now are. Their recommendations leave a Liberal Arts Major with no real guide to what he must take. Just a smorgasbord of electives, with more science.
