The whole idea of stopping the teaching of "dead white males" rose with multiculturalism.

As the saying goes, that's an urban myth. I know of no serious academic who advocates "stopping the teaching of 'dead white males.'" The argument has been that curriculums excluded the literatures and histories of some groups which now needed to be included. It's an inclusion argument which right wing types deliberately and misleadingly restated it as an exclusion argument.

As for the Harvard recommendations, I actually agree. And it's worse than you say, since those are not new; just ratifications of what is already going on in higher education.

The "core" has been in trouble for some rather long period. Multiculturalism is simply unrelated. In fact, most responsible arguments for multiculturalism are based on notions of inclusion--essential curricular elements are left out--rather than exclusion--getting rid of "dead white males."
