We know the stereotype of southern cops from entertainment media such as in "The Dukes of Hazard". There is still a certain amount of truth to that today. The Auto Club made a section of US 301 in our part of Florida nationally notorious for 3 speed traps. One little town off in the forest actually annexed a strip of land 20 feet wide out across US 301 and ticketed drivers exceeding the posted 55 MPH limit "within city limits". The state was so embarrassed, it increased the limit from 55 to 65 MPH on the 4 lane highway through the forest. The Gainesville city police aren't given a specific quota of tickets to write, but are graded at review time on their overall volume of ticket writing. Traffic violations are a rich source of revenue. The last ticket I got was many years ago when I lost track of the time and found myself driving in a diamond lane in California at the wrong time of day. Charles
