Techie - Nynex must not be talking to the right people..
>>Amadeo, I don't know about all the other RBOCs, but when asked: "should we expect DSLAM RFP from Nynex", the response was "ultimately yes, the integarated solution would be desirable but not sure if it should be DSLAM or ATM. We aren't clear yet".<<
They should be Talking to Source Comm about their BANC 6000 DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM).
BANC 6000 can connect to traditional ATM ATM switches and Ipsilon-compliant IP switches without requiring stand-alone routers.
a) The BANC is specifically focused on decoupling DSL modem equipment at the central office from the networking functions.
b) The BANC 6000 is ADSL Line Code independent, DMT/CAP.
c) The BANC 6000 replaces the Ethernet and asynchronous transfer mode switches used in DSL trials with a specialized product for providing frame- and cell-based broadband access services.
d) While the BANC 6000 capitalizes on simplified hardware, "the real magic is in the software," said Dave Passmore, president of Decisys Inc., Herndon, Va. "Sourcecom has focused on creating a tight routing software and tight router code. That allowed them to do more with less memory."
MS should take notes from Source Com .
My two cents into the formula,
