Jim, going back to the WIRED article, could you explain a difference between DSLAM and ATM.

In have seen already two quotes referring to DSLAM as "an ATM mux".
I thought DSLAM could feed to ATM, but is it the same as far as "billing" functionality, etc? Below is one of the confusing quotes I found at:

"Oswego, Ill.-based Westell said it has already tested an ATM-based multiplexer at customer sites. The unnamed DSLAM
supports an OC-3 interface and has load balancing and support for network management. The system, with pricing aimed at
under $1,000 per port, can support up to 250 ADSL modem connections and will be in field trials early next year"
