Boston, April 25 (Bloomberg) -- Bell Atlantic Corp. wants to test market its high-speed Internet line, known as ADSL, in Massachusetts in September or October, the Boston Herald reported. Bell Atlantic President Ivan Seidenberg said the company hopes to offer the service by the first quarter of next year. ADSL, or asymmetric digital subscriber lines, let Internet users connect at speeds 50 times faster than conventional modems and would cost about $40 to $50 a month, the paper said.
Bell Atlantic said first-quarter profit rose 11 percent, matching expectations, as it installed more phone lines, increased traffic on its network and added wireless customers. (BH 4/25 16 www.bostonherald.com)
