12/26/14 Contest update

Attention Biotechies: You’re all invited to post your 2015 portfolio stock picks at the SI board: “2015 Biotech Charity Contest”
Here’s the link:
Subject 59557

The earlier portfolios are posted, the easier it is for me to set up the Contest spreadsheets.
Please help me publicize the 2015 Contest. It would be great to beat the 2014 record of 46 contestants!

I’ll try to post the final 2014 Top Ten List the afternoon of 12/31, following the market close.

Early in the week, it looked for sure it would be an unmerry Holiday Season for biotech investors, as the Express Scripts deal with AbbVie put biotech stocks on an express elevator to the bargain basement. But Santa & the Maccabees showed up, magically reversed the elevator’s direction and the tears turned to smiles in Biotechland.
Yet, despite the reversal, biotechs did not make up their early week losses. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 15.71% YTD (vs. up 17.41% YTD a week ago) and the larger-cap Nasdaq Biotech Index, was up 35.35% YTD (vs. up 39.85% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 15.09% YTD (vs. up 14.10% YTD a week ago).
Although down for the week, DEWDIL’s portfolio, up 128.31% YTD, remained in the Contest lead by what appears to be an unbeatable margin. But it’s a very tight race for No. 2! DOUGH’s portfolio, up 105.66% YTD, did hold on to second place, but by a smidgen, with DIEGO’s portfolio, up 105.48% YTD, in third place.
At Friday's close, 33 of the 46 Contest portfolios were still in the black, while 17 of the 46 were beating the NBI. The median Contest portfolio stock (LGND) is up .68% YTD.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: As Trillium is now trading on NASDAQ as TRIL, I switched the tracking symbol from TR.TO to TRIL.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Best wishes for a terrific start to 2015 biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
