Nice post. I would add one more thing. Sometimes people post stuff in response to a post in their mailbox which may be a few hours or a day or two old, and don't realize what has taken place on the thread in the meantime. I think that has happened a couple of times lately (including today) and creates or enhances misunderstandings. The SI inbox interface is great, but that red number tends to draw your mouse like a magnet, and then you respond, and the people reading it are seeing it in the context of a thread discussion you didn't even realize was there. Think about that before breaking out of your newly-thickened skins, folks.
