My computer used to hang sometimes with QPV, too, when I still had Norton 2.0. I got around it by moving QPV from the Startup menu to the desktop. Then you can open QPV when you need it.

To move QPV in Win 95, right click on Start, click on Open, open the Programs folder, open the Startup folder and then drag and drop the QPV icon out of the folder onto the desktop. Now QPV won't load at startup, but you can open the program when you need it.

QPV works fine with Norton 3.0, btw.
