Helprin hits the nail on the head. And we are seeing some convergence in Congress between democrats like Biden, Bayh, even Daschle(as of last speech),and others with Republicans led by John McCain. Add to that many generals and ex military guys like Barry McCaffrey, Ralph Peters, perhaps Schwartzkopf and certainly Powell.
So which candidate gets it first and abandons the past rhetoric? Will Kerry leave teddy in the pond? Will Bush do in Defense what he did at Treasury? Will Kerry suceed in hooking up with McCain after he jettisons, teddy? Can Bush take charge of his campaign from the very tired Rove? Will Bush have the balls to fire a black women who has not exactly done a great job or shown great understanding of the terror threat? The answers to the above will determine the outcome of the election. Mike
