Tax cuts take revenue away from the gov't, adding to the deficit and contributing to credit crisis.

So does spending or a stimulus packages - the government does not have a credit crises (yet) - the taxed people do have a problem. Letting them keep their money allows them to pay bills , invest etc - the economy will recover only when the people decide to spend - the government cannot do this themselves.
