I also prefer lower-priced stocks, but that's what kept me out of HP and Pfizer last year, and they both doubled and split. If one is sure that there will be an earnings surprise in the near future (which I find always sends the stock way up), it doesn't matter what the cost was. My trouble is finding any stock that is going to do that in this market - I still don't know if Cognos qualifies.
