Actually, on reading the "Pueblo Leader" editorial more closely I see that the prediction of northern agricultural paradises was just speculation by the writer of the editorial, not a prediction by Arrhenius. Arrhenius' 1906 prediction of a 2.1 deg C rise for a doubling of CO2 (down from his first prediction of 4 deg) was darn good considering the state of the science at that time.

It was probably also partly lucky as he wasn't aware of all of the forcings (both positive and negative) that are currently known.

Here is another reason for you to dislike Arrhenius:

Svante Arrhenius was one of several leading Swedish scientists actively engaged in the process leading to the creation in 1922 of The State Institute for Racial Biology in Uppsala, Sweden, which had originally been proposed as a Nobel Institute. Arrhenius was a member of the institute's board, as he had been in The Swedish Society for Racial Hygiene (Eugenics), founded in 1909.
