It's a general problem with societal priorities, but ultimately, I believe society chose to focus on careers and materialism over raising families. That in turn helped inflate the price of real estate, which then makes dual-income families a requirement, etc. Well we disagree (shock!). And I lived through it. Families now need two incomes to get ahead. Now we can argue the definition of "get ahead" but certainly sending your kids to collage is a part of the definition. And you just can't do that on the average US income, unless your kid is really smart. But hey, I should be talking. No children yet, still living the DINK lifestyle ... Me too. DINKs rule.
