One interesting interpretation of the Bible account of the Israelites violent entry into Canaan is that what is really recorded is a peasant revolt against the corrupt Canaanite aristocracy. Then a few generations later the fools, despite God's warning, demanded and got a king placed over them and it was down hill ever since. In the Bible it is an age in which there was no king in Israel, and each man did as he thought right in his own heart. And so it was through the world.
