any comparisons to Carter are irrelvant now anyway. Unfortunately the only democratic leaders we really have to judge another democrat against are Clinton and Carter. Clinton comparisons are reasonable but Carter (and all 70s presidents) were victims of their time, where it appeared that the US was deadlocked in a race with Russia forever, and (worse) our industrial base was collapsing. Carter didn't cause the 70s he was just a victim of it.
