Of course

You said:

"No business person in their right mind is going to expand right now."

I was just pointing out that 70% of those people who are expanding by adding the next dump truck are still doing it.

Let's see. Money in more hands, hands that are inclined to spend it. Exactly how will that not make a difference?

Well, we will see, I suppose.

I guess it will make a "difference", but not the kind of "difference" we need. What we NEED is to put people back to work, and the way you do that is through productive activities that cause businesses to need more equipment, to hire more people, etc. Having the government pay them to watch TV does put money in their hands for consumption, but that will not foster new investment. It is subsistence, and those with whom that money is spent will merely subsist as well.

Had they taken those unemployment and health care benefits and said, "We're going to allocate this money for specific infrastructure projects", then you'd have something. These unemployed individuals would be STILL getting most of the money, but we [the taxpayers] would be getting something of value for it and the otherwise unemployeds would be getting MORE money than the mere unemployment benefits and the construction contractors would be buying new equipment from Caterpillar which puts THOSE people back to work.

The idea that giving money to unemployed people is good for ANY economy is a bizarre notion. FDR created unemployment as a stopgap measure, not as a way of life.
