Broadcom's earnings, revenue soar in 4Q By Mark LaPedus Electronic Buyers' News (01/26/99, 06:19:24 PM EDT)
Citing strong demand in the LAN/WAN, set-top box, and other markets, Broadcom Corp. reported sales of $70.1 million for its fourth quarter ended December 31, an increase of 306% over the $17.3 million posted in the like period a year ago.
Net income for the high-flying, Irvine, Calif.-based supplier of communication ICs was $12.8 million during the quarter, compared to $2.5 million in the like period a year ago.
For the year, Broadcom reported sales of $203.1 million, an increase of 450% over the $37.0 million posted in 1997. Net income for 1998 was $36.4 million, compared with a loss of $1.2 million last year.
Henry T. Nicholas III, Broadcom's President and CEO, attributed the results to strong demand for its products in the digital set-top box and networking markets.
