Brooks is also of the mentality of "do something," that trying is better than not trying, and that good intentions can make up for the lack of knowledge and know-how. I don't know where you get the 'good intentions' thing. At least he characterizes the effects of the economy as an oscillation, which resonates well to an electrical engineer like myself. That makes more sense to me than the notion that the free market is coming to a screeching halt. The 'free market' based on self correcting mechanisms came to a halt a while back. Check Greenspan's comments... he was the ultimate free market guy. And now admits he was wrong.
