"CJ, we're entrusting more and more responsibility to government"

That we are. And it needs to be watched and rolled back as soon as possible. We've done it in the past.

"Either way, I don't see politicians being all that much smarter than used car salesmen."

No, they aren't. But the system allows for that. Which is why we have the checks and balances, and, ultimately, the bureaucracy. Granted, it takes following the rules, but that is why the rules exist.

"Some liberals here believe in more government as long as we have the "right people in office.""

Maybe. I put more faith in the system. It is designed to keep excesses from happening. When the controls are ignored or disabled, it is a disaster waiting to happen.

"Yeah right, we can't even find the right people to recommend stocks, much less manage a global economy (or build nations i.e. Iraq) ..."

Can't comment as to recommending stocks, but the rest was because we ignored the examples of how to do things right. Instead, we relied on unproven theories and ideology. And it failed. Shouldn't be a huge surprise. We are supposed to lean from experience, not make the assumption that it didn't work in the past because we didn't try hard enough.
