Ken:

I thought I had a "virtual" Metastock file by installing virtual in the first place. What do I do about this?

You have the option in QP2 of using Metastock compatible "real" files or virtual files. Right now, you have "real" MSDATA files. You installed QP Virtual, but you may not have set up any virtual directories or files. To do this first go to the Virtual Setup program and create a new profile. Then you can send files to the profile's main directory or subdirectories, through scans or by dragging and dropping in Virtual Setup.

To create Virtual directories of stocks with scans, add this coding to the scans:

ProcessMS = "D:\Meta", VMS;

after you've created a profile called D:\Meta in Virtual Setup.

Create subdirectories of virtual files with coding like this:

ProcessMS = "d:\meta\list617\",VMS;

You can also create "real" Metastock directories with slightly different coding:

ProcessMS = "d:\meta\list617\",MSDATA;

Or you can just create lists generated by scans with this coding:

output="617.lst";

And then output them with the Metastock program, so you have "real" Metastock directories.

I guess I'm gonna have to point you to the manual, because I know this is getting darn confusing. It'll become clear enough in a while -- believe me. It's not as arcane as it appears now.
