Remember, four months from now, Microsoft will still be a year away from releasing their first new desktop OS in five years, while Apple will be riding their halo effect hard, while still dropping da bomb 'dat is Tiger on a hungry, security-deprived public. Frankly, I would not be surprised to see Apple break it's all-time record for Mac shipments this holiday season. Easily.
Calling a contrary position "the truth", as you did, seems a bit comical indeed, especially as it seems to be based on nothing more than misplaced faith (or lack thereof). As opposed to numbers. It could happen, of course, but recent trends rather strongly suggest otherwise. Pretending they don't is, again, comical.
Apple's all-time best quarter was the holiday quarter of CY 1999, in which it shipped 1.377M Macs. This was somewhat inflated by channel stuffing, but I believe Apple is on track to exceed it this year. Without channel stuffing. Events will prove one of us right, I'm sure.
By the way, would you regard even the 14% increase between the just-concluded quarter and last holiday quarter as "pathetic"? Because if so, be aware that it would almost certainly beat the industry. And I would find it hard to regard even that conservatively estimated performance as "pathetic", the way you did.
