Metrowerks Announces JavaOS Support

CodeWarrior Programming Tools To Build Embedded Applications

AUSTIN, Texas-Embargo until May 29, 1996-Metrowerks®, Inc. (TSE,ME:MWK) announced today that Metrowerks
CodeWarrior® tools will provide full support for JavaOSTM, a new product unveiled today by JavaSoft, an operating
company of Sun Microsystems®.

JavaOS, previously code-named "Kona", is a highly-compact embedded operating system designed to run on a broad range
of platforms, including recently announced low-cost network computers, cellular telephones, PDAs, game machines and
other devices.

Metrowerks plans to introduce full JavaOS support in the fourth calendar quarter of 1996 in a new version of
Metrowerks CodeWarrior which will include support for embedded industry-standard file formats (ELF), application
binary interfaces (EABI) and debugging formats (DWARF). Metrowerks CodeWarrior for Embedded Systems will support
embedded application development for the 68K, PowerPCTM, MIPS® and x86 families of microprocessors and will be
hosted on MacTMOS, Windows®95 and WindowsNTTM. It will feature both serial and TCP/IP target development support
for source-level debugging. Pricing for Metrowerks CodeWarrior for Embedded Systems has not yet been established.

"JavaSoft is extremely pleased that Metrowerks will be supporting full application development for JavaOS with
Metrowerks CodeWarrior," said Jim Mitchell, vice president & chief technology officer of JavaSoft. "Metrowerks'
dedication to supporting embedded application development was a major factor in our selecting Metrowerks as a strategic
partner to support JavaOS."

"In working closely with Sun Microsystems, we intend to provide full support in CodeWarrior for development of JavaOS
network-ready applications," said Greg Galanos, president and CEO of Metrowerks. "Metrowerks CodeWarrior is the ideal
solution for developers interested in Java-based tools to complement their adoption of the JavaOS."
