Internet Security Systems Named Microsoft Security Partner, Joins Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider Alliance
ISS to provide Microsoft-customized versions of leading network security software enabling customers to proactively discover and eradicate security risks
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1998-- Internet Security Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISSX - news) today announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT - news) to further enhance the security of the Windows NT operating system and BackOffice family of products for customers worldwide. As a member of the Microsoft Security Partner Program, ISS will provide its market-leading SAFEsuite(tm) family of security assessment and intrusion detection software to help customers reap the benefits of Windows NT-based systems while actively protecting their critical networked information.

In addition, ISS has joined the Microsoft Certified Solution Provider (MCSP) Alliance and is working with Microsoft Consulting Services to provide increased access to ISS SAFEsuite software solutions for successful training, implementation and management of secure Windows NT-based enterprise networks.

''Microsoft Security Partner status is validation of ISS' efforts to provide leading security expertise and best-of-breed adaptive network security software to the industry at large,'' said Chris Rossie, vice president of channel operations for Internet Security Systems, Inc. ''ISS' core competency is understanding how systems are vulnerable and developing software that complements the security infrastructure to actively defend against these vulnerabilities. We are pleased to elevate the sharing of this knowledge to a new level as we work with Microsoft and Microsoft Solution Providers as a trusted advisor and provider of enterprise-wide Windows NT security issues and solutions.''

Karan Khanna, Windows NT security product manager, Microsoft Corporation, added, ''Microsoft is pleased to include ISS as part of its Security Partner Program. Our mutual customers can work with our industry partners to develop and deploy secure solutions built on the Windows NT platform.''

As part of its strategic relationship with Microsoft, ISS is committed to the continued, ongoing development of Windows NT-specific security components within its SAFEsuite family of adaptive network security software solutions. Internet Scanner, the industry standard software used for proactive security assessments, utilizes a comprehensive database of vulnerability ''checks'' to automatically scan a network and identify potential security weaknesses across an entire enterprise network. Today, ISS' Internet Scanner includes the industry's most robust set of BackOffice and Windows NT vulnerability checks that provide critical security information on the state of customer's Windows NT networks.

In addition, ISS has recently developed and will soon make available a special version of Internet Scanner optimized for BackOffice environments. This customization simplifies deployment and increases Internet Scanner's overall ease-of-use for ongoing security assessments and overall security management within Windows NT enterprise environments. In addition to Internet Scanner, ISS is integrating BackOffice-specific security features into its entire SAFEsuite product line.

To enable customers to respond to ever-changing security risks and threats, ISS utilizes its leading security research team, the ISS XForce, to uncover the latest vulnerability and threat information and integrate checks for these weaknesses within its SAFEsuite product family. In an effort to communicate critical network security risks to organizations worldwide, ISS has made widely available the industry's first comprehensive, online information protection center - the ISS XForce Computer Vulnerability and Threat Database (http://www.iss.net/xforce). This critical information source is continually updated by ISS' XForce security experts with the latest security vulnerability and risk information.
