I don't think the issue with popular vote versus electoral college, but rather that the country is so divided right now with the highly populated but minority of states on the west and north-east leaning decisively democratic. Switching to a popular won't help cure that divisiveness...heck it may even make the hard feelings worse. That being said, I am not a fan of the electoral college.
