Though I should think that this sort of thing would happen (if I've understood the possibilities) only with heavily-traded options... One would think it would heavily traded options more often. Options with very little activity have a large bid/ask spread and the market maker always will split the difference. I believe the market maker hopes someone will place an order at the bid or ask and there is a lot more profit for the market maker per transaction. The market maker gets less executions on thinly traded options so prefers to make more per trade. Glenn
