the last few days my computer began to really slow down. naturally, i did the usual things. made sure i updated and ran all the anti-virus and anti-spyware i had.

still the problem remained. the ol' puter was slow and sick.

i wondered if i was missing something. i looked at the start up programs in my 'winpatrol', and everything seemed ok. then i remembered that 'winpatrol' never tells me when a newer version is available (my choice). in my mind it didn't need to as it was still catching all the 'start up' programs. but when i checked i found that there was a new version available. i had 'winpatrol8.0' and 9.1 was already out. so i downloaded and installed it.

the first thing the updated program did was tell me about 2 new 'objects' in internet explorer. winpatrol couldn't identify them so, i told winpatrol to kill both processes. (you can always go back and reverse the process if you need to).

presto! the ol' puter was back up to speed.

this is a plug for winpatrol. it is the only program that found the two obects in IE. i use firefox mainly, but i also keep IE, avant and sometimes 'slimbrowser' open at the same time. i have my reasons for doing so, but they are irrelevant to the point i'm trying to make.

i recommend that everyone with windows XP run the latest version of winpatrol. it is very effective and not a resource hog and it is free. no program will catch everything, but i can tell you that spbot S&D, microsoft antispy, scriptsentry, AVG, spywareblaster, spywareguard, a-squared antivirus, cws shredder and ad-aware SE, all recently updated and running did not catch or stop whatever it was that was slowing down my computer. winpatrol9.1 did.

happy hunting..
