The Falklands Alternative.

Drilling due to commence in the North Falklands Basin 1Q/06, where an estimated 110 billion barrels of hydrocarbon are present in the graben. Two companies involved in this area are Desire Petroleum, (listed on London's Alternative Investment Market), and Rockhopper, a new company shortly to be listed on London's Alternative Investment Market.

To the South and East of the Falklands two companies presently hold acreage; Falklands Oil and Gas Limited, (F.O.G.L.), and a newly formed company called Borders and Southern.

At last week's Annual General Meeting, the chairman of F.O.G.L. gave estimates of 1.250 trillion, (yes, trillion), barrels of oil within their acreage, although recoverable figures will obviously vary.

This post is not meant as a ramp but to bring the attention of people to the Falklands which can prevent dependence of hydrocarbons from OPEC.
I hold Desire Petroleum.
