You are smart to keep your kids away from modernist priests. Most of them are good men, but there are enough bad ones, even evil ones, to justify staying away. Most folks are not aware, but since at least the 50s there has been a concerted effort by some groups to infiltrate seminaries. Kind of a trojan horse strategy employed by the Church's enemies. These seminarians would become priests, go on to become bishops and cardinals, and bring in more of their own along the way. An excellent overview of how and why the Church got to its present state is found in Windswept House by Malachi Martin. Its written in novel form, but is historically accurate. He chose the novel form because he had to change names of people, many of whom are still alive and active. The fact that you kept your sons out of the Church is vivid proof that these evil men's plans are working. There is a remnant of the old faith still around. There is a small but growing Latin Mass movement. Some folks have to travel far to find a Mass, some folks can't get there at all. The modern church may implode, but the Latin Mass movement will survive and thrive. Good luck, Charles
