Several points in your post require both a response as well as a summation of experiences throughout the industry. I only have time to comment on the following statement:

<It's really beginning to bug me, as I own a lot of "55%" companies....... egos and blinders are getting in the way of the sector's vitality.>

But first, I must agree with 55% and 15% category groups, and I call them the trying to find the clue group and the other cluelass. I also submit that the 5% group is actually a higher percentage, and it is our job to constantly find those "diamonds in the rough". Sometimes that value lies in the science in the face of inadequate management.

Two issues come to the surface on the ego issue immediately, and those relate to 1) management egos, and 2) individual scientist egos getting in the way of collaboration to sufficiently advance a program. A friend in the industry told me several years ago that egos amongst the scientists account for the demise of 50% of all biotech startups. I'm curious as to other opinions, but I think that estimate may be close.

As to ego and blinders getting in the way of the sectors' "vitality", I'm sure you mean viability as well.

Since this is the GENE tread, any comments as to their management? I have not really paid close attention to them. I feel that there are several other innovative genomics companies out there, far more exciting than GENE, both public and private.
