Benjamin; I can envision a style of city/country where there are two systems. One has concrete roads and the cars have rubber tires. The other has rubber roads and the cars have concrete tires. As long as they keep to their own ways all is well. (You can take this analogy only so far, what if the road got a flat?, would all the cars on it stop??, and the idea of large spinning masses of concrete, well, eventually one will win, and it will not be the rubber roads one. In the same way Mac and Wintel are not compatible in the past, but mixed nets are quite viable now.
I cannot see why they do that at Yale because mixed networks are quite viable(I recieved several e-mails advising me about assorted solutions) So for some reason Yale will only make files available that can be read by PCs??? Sounds illiogical. Why do they care who transmits/receives files. For example I am using a Wintel, but I am sure many of you are on Macs. It seems as if Yale is using an archaic system that does not allow the more modern browser mode access which allows Macs, Wintels, etc to seamlessly use the system. Of course essays must be submitted in some standard form, but this is commonplace, as I know people on both systems at U of T who submit essays without problems. It may be that Yale has stopped support for older macs, and the more recent ones are permitted, anyone know for sure?, and what is Yale basic reason?? Bill |
