Hello John. I have wondered as well what is on topic / off topic. Just my opinion but if there were a thread dedicated to monitoring the US$ I wonder what kind of topics would be posted there. The purpose of this thread is stated as " The purpose of this thread is very simple: To monitor/analyze those factors affecting the price of gold, long-term, short-term, and in-between, and to determine where we currently stand in relation to those factors." So if gold were to be considered a form of global currency then anything that would affect the value of paper currency would also affect the value of gold. Government policies, wars, y2k, disaster's, paranoia etc. can all have some affect on the value of currencies. So what's on topic /off topic ? I don't know guess it would depend on how a person views gold ?. Take care Lorne
