BEA(R) Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ:BEAS) today announced the signing of a multi-million dollar middleware software product and services contract with Swedish Post, the national postal service and banking institution for Sweden, to extend over the course of five years.

BEA was selected by virtue of its technology's broad functionality and reliability in supporting mission-critical needs inherent in the operation of a national postal and financial service, as well as for its experience in providing consulting services for enterprise middleware solutions.

BEA's technology includes BEA TUXEDO(R), BEA Jolt(TM), BEA Builder(TM), BEA MessageQ(TM), and BEA Connect(TM). This suite of software provides the platform for the new information technology (IT) structure the Swedish Post is introducing as part of its structural reorganization.

BEA TUXEDO, a market leading middleware solution, is a proven and robust architecture for developing, deploying, and managing mission-critical applications in distributed computing environments.

The Swedish Post is also working closely with BEA's consulting services to assist the Swedish Post with the architectural design, development, and evaluation, as well as the installation and education to successfully complete its IT overhaul.

The new structure at the Swedish Post is designed to make the postal service and banking institution more customer-oriented. "The new organization calls for nine different units where each unit is working with a unique customer segment and offers the customer all requested services within its field," said Goran Ernmark, CIO at Swedish Post.

Currently, each unit represents one particular customer service, which means that a customer can have several contacts depending on the requested service.

The new IT-architecture at Swedish Post, based on BEA TUXEDO, has been designed to suit the demands of all units and enable IT support. BEA TUXEDO was selected because of its exceptional ability in meeting the business needs of the Swedish Post.

"BEA has not only been successfully established in Sweden, but has also taken a leading position in providing mission-critical systems to the Swedish market," said Fred Crary, vice president of worldwide vertical sales for BEA. "This project is another example of the strength of BEA in providing mission-critical solutions and services required by intense environments such as the financial services market."

The five-year agreement between BEA and Swedish Post combines 10,000 software licenses with supporting services, education, and consulting. The project calls for all divisions within the Swedish Post to base their IT-support on the BEA middleware platform.

The agreement further strengthens BEA's position as a leading middleware supplier in the European bank and finance sector. BEA technology supports major banks and postal services in Finland, France, and Switzerland.
