jiggy, I think part of it has to do with margins but in the case of CPQ/CYRX
it's also a matter of technology that is not offered by Intel.

Cyrix 586gx will perform in par with P150 but will require a 486 MB with no
external L2 cache. Total cost of the Processor plus MB should be under
$100. When you target the $500 PC/NC that's the only way to go (today).

I'm considering to get back to Cyrix. They will not make any money in the
very near future but they will be in an excellent market position starting '97.
BTW, PC Computing ran some benchmarks on P200 class systems.
The top four are Cyrix P200+. The fastest Cyrix is 15% faster than the
fastest Pentium.
