I am less certain of this. Remember that the invasion was not actually conducted to liberate Kuwait. It was conducted to remove the Iraqi forces from a position from which they could threaten Saudi Arabia, and to reduce those forces to a level that eliminated that threat. Kuwait was not enough, in itself, to fight for, but we could not accept the possibility of a war fought in the Saudi oil fields.

Wars are fought on the basis of perceived national interest. Morality is an afterthought, trotted out to salve public opinion and encourage those that are expected to march off to fight.
