(ot) Rats. I should correct that. I know those numbers so well, and am surprised that I seem to mix them up so easily. Each real was 1500 yards of very tough thread (not 1760 yards, which is a mile). And well, yes, the line to the flying beast was a concave hypotenuse (if there is such a thing) of a right-angled triangle. The thread was light and tough enough, however, that you could make it quite steep. I would frequently take it up to where you could see it as a speck, and sometimes not see it at all. And I had good eyes in those days. :)
