Most concerted efforts to solve large problems often produce far more interesting results--somewhere on the periphery of the original problem.

Alan will have much to reflect on in retirement, as he sits in his garden. (kind of reminds me of Ringo Starr saying after the Beatles broke up he just sat in his garden for 2 years--stumped and confused about all that had happened---the Beatles set out to "make music" but of course something un-intended happened along way--unless you include John who i think had grander intentions from the beginning...)
