One more thing Gary, that's right I did say LAN's will be obsolete. The time frame, I'm not actually that sure of, but there are technologies right now, using cat. 5 copper wire, that can do 30 frame per second full motion video to the desktop, across thousands of miles using an ATM backbone, with stereo sound, and data speed transference of 25 mbps, again using an ATM backbone. That's Television Quality video right on your desktop with no latency and no separation of sound and picture (which takes 8+ mbps to do...no way you get this on a Cisco LAN)....all without interrupting e POTS on the same twisted pair. Translation: You won't have to install any new wiring. No way you can do any of this with Video on a LAN, there buddy. LAN's are for data, not pictures. Compression of the bits just won't come out with a quality picture....so in my opinion, the coming onslaught of Video, the killer application for the millenium, represents a HUGE threat to Cisco....unless they quickly buy their way into it like they usually try to....Tek....Oh, and one more thing, please don't send me anymore private messages telling me to do more research before I try to post here....Tek |
